This text file provides information you should know about
this version of Diskeeper.
TRIALWARE INFORMATION

1. This copy of Diskeeper is a full-featured version with
all the functionality of the retail product. The only
difference between this and the retail version is that
this version will expire 30 days after you install it.
2. No live telephone support is provided with this trialware
version. However, any questions can be sent via e-mail to
DKNT_SUPPORT@EXECUTIVE.COM. All questions will be promptly
answered.
3. For information about purchasing Diskeeper, including volume
discounts, contact your reseller, or contact Executive Software
at 888-GET-DKNT or 818-547-2050. A detailed list of Diskeeper
resellers is available from the Executive Software Web site
at www.diskeeper.com.
PLATFORMS AND OPERATING SYSTEM VERSIONS SUPPORTED
=================================================
This version of Diskeeper is supported on Intel x86 platforms
running Windows NT 4.0 builds 1381 and higher.
CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
=======================
1. This version of Diskeeper introduces the Boot-Time Directory
Consolidation feature. This allows Diskeeper to defragment
and consolidate directories -- objects that cannot be defragmented
in an on-line mode.
2. The Windows NT Server version of Diskeeper can now be installed
on Windows NT Workstations.
3. This version of Diskeeper introduces greatly enhanced scheduling
capabilities. You can now:
o Set schedules for more than one partition at a time
o Set a single schedule for all the partitions on one or
more computers on your network (Server version only)
4. The text analysis display has been revised. It is now displayed
as a separate window with enhanced display controls.
5. The Diskeeper Event Logging options have been expanded. You can
now log this information:
o Service Start and Stop
o Defrag Start and Stop
o Number of Files Defragmented
o Number of Eliminated Fragments
o Disk Information
o File Information
o Directory Information
o Pagefile Information
o MFT Information
KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES IN THIS RELEASE
=======================================
1. Diskeeper for Windows NT is not compatible with systems
using the DPT Smart Cache III controller, unless Service
Pack 1, 2 or 3 for Windows NT 4.0 has been installed. Do
not run Diskeeper on systems using the DPT Smart Cache
III controller until you install Service Pack 1, 2 or 3 on
your Windows NT system.
2. On rare occasions, especially when running Diskeeper in
the Set It and Forget It mode, a Dr. Watson "Error 87"
message may be displayed. This message can be disregarded
and is no cause for alarm. We believe this is caused by
an error which Diskeeper is handling internally but which
Dr. Watson also attempts to handle.
3. The on-screen Diskeeper Boot-time Directory Consolidation
progress information cannot be viewed on your monitor if
you are using a Diamond Stealth Viper video card or any
other video card that does not support Windows NT boot-time
display. You can still, however, record a summary file
during the Boot-Time Directory Consolidation. See the
Diskeeper Help system for more information on the Boot-Time
Summary File.
KNOWN RESTRICTIONS IN THIS RELEASE
==================================
1. At times, the View menu Refresh option to update the tree view of
the network computers may not reflect the current network. This
is due to network communication limitations in Windows NT.
2. You cannot use the Network Scheduler to schedule defragmentation on
a computer to which you are currently connected. Use the Drive
Scheduler option to schedule defragmentation of partitions on the
machine you are connected to -- the Network Scheduler option to
schedule machines you are not connected to.
This means you must be connected to a machine other than your local
computer (by clicking on a remote computer in the Diskeeper network
tree view display) if you want to use the Network Scheduler to
schedule your local computer.
3. Due to Windows NT security issues, it is necessary for you to have
Administrator privileges on both the local machine and any remote
computers upon which you set Diskeeper schedules. Your account on
the remote computer must also have the same password as your account
on the local machine.
4. If a remote computer is shut down while Diskeeper Server is connected
to that computer, you will be unable to re-connect Diskeeper to any other
computers, including your local computer. It may be necessary in such
circumstances to use the Windows NT Task Manager to end the Diskeeper
task. After doing this, Diskeeper will operate properly.
REQUIRED PRIVILEGES
